ORAUK donated a bowling machine to the Royal College Cricket team.

Refurbishment of Chemistry Laboratories Over the past two years, ORAUK has contributed GBP 6,750 toward the refurbishment of two Chemistry laboratories at Royal College, as part of a total budget of approximately GBP 20,000. These labs had remained unchanged for over 25 years and posed significant safety risks. One laboratory was fully upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities, making it the first of its kind among Sri Lankan schools. The second laboratory underwent essential improvements, including repairs to teak tables, installation of new safety features, updated flooring, and fresh paint—ensuring a safer and more modern learning environment for students.

ORAUK has been a sponsor of Royal Cricket by way of providing necessary infrastructure and equipments, and also sponsored several Royal Cricketers to participate in league cricket within the UK, giving them valuable experience with English playing conditions. Players such as Randev Pathirana, Thiran Dhanapala, Chamika Karunaratne, Himesh Ramanayake, Devind Pathmanathan, Dasis Manchanayake and Kavindu Madarasinhe were selected based on their achievements in school cricket and have benefited from this initiative. Additionally, ORAUK continues to support Royal Cricket by providing current College cricketers with essential equipment including bowling machines, cricket bats, balls, helmets, and more.

To enable the younger generation to acquire relevant skills in Information technology, ORAUK helped to refurbish the middle school computer lab in 2019.

The RCU saw the essential need for an Induction Programme for the for newly joined Academic Staff, on the theme of “Welcome to Royal” , and focus on introducing to the Traditions and Culture of Royal, building leadership qualities in teachers, planning/organizing and personal grooming.

The labs had not been refurbished for more than 25 years and were in a dire state where the safety of the schoolboys was at risk.

Royal Rugby has consistently benefited from the support of ORAUK, with the teams continually meeting and exceeding expectations. Since 2010, Royal College has secured the league championship title six times. Notably, the Bradby Shield was retained for ten consecutive years from 2015 to 2024. Although the team experienced a setback in 2024, losing the Shield, they made a remarkable comeback in 2025—defeating league champions Trinity College and reclaiming the title against all odds.

ORAUK part sponsored the Drama ‘MANAME’ to raise funds for the much needed, Medical Assistance Programme, implemented in aid of retired Teachers of the College, by the Past Teachers Association of Royal College.

ORAUK has been Supporting Royal College Water polo, with funding for nutrition and off-season activities.

It is heartening to see the Royal boxers winning the 100th Stubbs shield few years ago. This is the 19th time Royal has won the shield, which no other schools in the country has achieved in Stubbs Shield boxing. For the past two years in 2024 and 2025, Royal has been the runner-up in the Stubbs Shield competition, and they are aiming to win it next year.

ORAUK annually sponsors the English drama society of Royal College in the Shakespeare drama competition, enabling the present day students, to bring their talents on stage and to develop their language skills and inter-personal skills.
